Red Sox Bats Explode as They Take Two of Three From Tribe

Recap
The Red Sox offense exploded on Wednesday afternoon for one of their best performance of the season, and they started their onslaught early. After Jacoby Ellsbury led off the game with a base hit, Dustin Pedroia hit a blast to left center and just like the the Sox had a 2-0 lead. They were far from over, when Carl Crawford came up with runners on first and third and one out. Crawford hit an RBI single, followed by another from Saltalamacchia, a sac fly from Mike Cameron, and another base hit from Drew Sutton. Two batters later, Dustion Pedroia hit yet another RBI single. Jon Lester came to the mound in the bottom of the first already the owner of a 7-0 lead. After tacking on another run in the third, the Red Sox got yet another run from a solo blast off the bat of Carl Crawford, who ended up 4-4 with three runs and two RBIs. The sixth inning brought five more runs for the Red Sox, including home runs from David Ortiz and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Lost in the offensive explosion for the Boston bats was a very solid start from ace Jon Lester. After looking shaky against the Cubs over the weekend, Lester recovered to go six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out seven. The win continued the team's red-hot May, against one of the best teams baseball has had to offer so far in 2011.

The Red Sox (27-22) start their weekend series in Detroit (25-23) this afternoon at 1:05 PM ET.  Boston sends Alfredo Aceves (1-0 2.42) to the mound against the Tigers' Max Scherzer (6-1 2.98).
